Dental crowns |

The crowns, ideal restorations for broken or very decays-damaged teeth or with very large fillings, that are placed above the especially prepared tooth, in order to strengthen it and give it back the natural shape, can be:
Crowns made entirely out of ceramics satisfy special aesthetic, because:
- They do not have any metallic infrastructure
- The material is translucent and thus permits the light to be transmitted on the level of the tooth, and it does not stain the adjacent tissues
- The biocompatibility is on the maximum, because the material does not cause the potential allergies or toxicity phenomena that may be provoked by the metallic alloys.
Crowns on zirconium oxide perfectly combine the resistance of the metals with the aesthetics of the dental ceramics. From a chemical point of view, zirconium is a rare metal that is hardly fusible, of white colour, with mechanical resistance and high durability.
The advantages of the cast metal partial dentures on zirconium oxide structures are:
- Complete biocompatibility with the tissues
- Perfect adaptation, since the base of the crown is obtained through a computerised CAD-CAM milling
- They can be used in the lateral areas where the systems consisting entirely of ceramics do not have the resistance that is necessary for the mastication forces.
Crowns on metallic structure are one of the most widely used solutions ofprosthetic and aesthetic treatment, because of the high biocompatibility of the ceramic masses with the gingival tissues and because of the price difference between this type of crown and the crowns on zirconium oxide structure or those consisting entirely of ceramics. At large crowns, the metallic structure confers the necessary mechanical resistance for the mastication forces.
Still, the presence of the metallic structure limits the possibility of obtaining an exceptional aesthetic result, especially concerning the front teeth, where the aesthetics and the naturalness are very important. These crowns are recommendable especially for the lateral areas.
