The teeth that are missing from the dental arcades have to be replaced out of many reasons:
- Physiognomic aspect
- Apparition of parodontosis and of decays as a result of the migration of the teeth from the neighbourhood of the empty spaces.
- Affection of the digestive system through the lower mastication efficiency
- New distribution of the forces on the teeth that are left on the dental arcade and as a result the excessive demand with mastication forces, that in time lead to their advanced attrition.
- Perturbation of the occlusion because of the fact that the teeth near the empty spaces can incline and can migrate vertically and horizontally, thus affecting both the way the upper teeth close up with the lower teeth, and the temporo-mandibular articulation.
From patient to patient, depending on the number of missing teeth, on the gingival and bone layer, the empty spaces on the dental arcades can be completed through:
- Implants
- Dental bridges
- Cast metal partial denture with precision attachments, with clasps or telescopes
- Acrylic cast metal partial denture
- Combinations of the above-mentioned.
